Construction forensics: They're not all construction defects

While a 1.5 hour session cannot replace a lifetime of experience, this seminar will present a series of case histories addressing common challenges faced by the construction industry (both errors in construction and design). In addition, various problem-solving techniques and the equipment for tackling these important issues will be discussed. Topics that will be presented include: concrete cracking, concrete floor moisture problems, reinforcement corrosion, concrete coring, in addition to others. THE EASE AND WONDERS OF ICF CONSTRUCTION

This will be a PowerPoint presentation covering the basics of ICF construction, the particulars used in a case study house, and the actual and potential benefits derived from living in this type home. It will explore construction variables, lessons learned, things to be done differently the next time, and serendipities that presented themselves during construction and afterward. We will compare costs of ICF and standard stick-building, both short-term and long-term, and in the process show why this type of construction is the ideal system for the Gulf Coast for all types of projects from low-income housing to high-end mansions to multi-story office buildings and hotels. The benefits of ICF construction are considerable, and we will discuss some of them. There will be a Q&A at the end.
